An Unfinished Letter

Here’s a letter in progress. Here’s an unfinished thought. Here’s an ink, pencil, & paper writing prompt:

Dear Aunt Anne & Uncle Butch,

Thank you so much for this lean, mean, green Remington Quiet-Riter typewriter! I've already sunk a dozen or so pages with it & I like the way it feels. We're a good match as far as wordsmith & machine go.
When I was home last week Dee & I stopped at an estate sale on the way to Williamsport and I found a little metal box with a softwood interior full of buttons. I swept a pencil over the metal lid; the relief shows a woman in a kimono, a mother, and a child waving to perhaps a merchant husband and father returning home from foreign lands, sails stretched, hull emptied of export, the bays heavy with import, a sailor with gifts of figurines, string & a kite for the child and an especially precious gift for his wife. Perhaps a box like this one full of buttons & coins & a length of bracelet chain with no clasp & trinkets he collected from all the ports...
Well, maybe that's how I'll write it up later when I finish that story about this little metal box from Japan...
