even to rust
time

a sordid affair
chasing magnetic words around in a hurry
ampersands [&] symbols
elaborate apparatus on a ferrous field
ouch|!       an [ if ] stuck under the nail
feel how they prick
yet so often the right one|s do not hold
flesh torn as|under 
carved off for the fold
loose meat fell to the floor
rivulet of red rain let to the sea
drawn blood run cold   rapt in worn cloth|ing
to rush down the brass drain
dust to stardust as it be told
did you ever see a whistl|ing butcher work a pig
to purloin the choice|st cuts ?
paper|ed  and  tape|d  shut to be soul|d
ti|me  again
pick a number the counter  is close|d

so few words yet so much force

shuffl|ed  or lost on a page
some get stuck in the  card|s
like  [one] [&] [true]  always  try|ing  too hard
mis|placed   mis|hand|led   mis|cons|true|d
yet some  whol|ly  become  to do right by their thing
when proper|ly  peace|d  together
like time it|self
